Rangers appeal Jose Cifuentes red card

Rangers have launched an appeal against the red card shown to Jose Cifuentes against Dundee.

The midfielder was sent off at the end of the first-half for a challenge on Amadou Bakayoko.

Referee Kevin Clancy initially gave a yellow card for the incident but was recommended to go over the screen by VAR Steven Kirkland.

Following a review, the Ecuadorian was shown a straight red card for serious foul play.

The tribunal hearing will be fast tracked, with the date set for Tuesday 12 December.

If unsuccessful, Cifuentes will miss Sunday's Viaplay Cup final against Aberdeen.

The Ibrox side are already facing a crisis in that area of the park with Ryan Jack, Nicolas Raskin and Tom Lawrence all injured.

Speaking after Saturday's 3-1 win, Philippe Clement said in his press conference that Jose Cifuentes told him he tried to pull out of the challenge.

He said: "Jose told me he lost the ball and wanted to win it back.

"He wanted to block the ball but the other guy is a split second faster and tackles through the ball, there’s contact.

"Jose tries to avoid it, he didn’t go through it, so I want to see things back to have a clear and good opinion so we can make an assessment the next few days.”
