Rangers women's coach Craig McPherson has been handed a six-match ban by the Scottish FA for headbutting Celtic women's manager Fran Alonso last month.

The incident, also the subject of police enquiries, occurred at full-time after the Hoops had scored a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Broadwood Stadium.

Last week, McPherson offered a "full and unreserved apology" for his actions towards Alonso and admitted he "severely let himself, the team and the club down".

He said he would accept any forthcoming punishment.

The 47-year-old will now miss the majority of Rangers eight remaining games as they aim to close the gap on Celtic and Glasgow City at the top of the SWPL table.

Rangers men's boss Michael Beale described the incident as "out of character" for McPherson.
