Friends of a Celtic fan who died at Parkhead before yesterday’s match against St Mirren say she was “Celtic through and through”.

Alison McGoff, from Coatbridge, was a member of St Margaret’s Celtic Supports Club, and attended “as many games as she could”.

Police say they were made aware of concern for a woman in the toilets at Celtic Park at around quarter to three yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to help, but the 54 year old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Helen McGreechin, a friend of Alison’s, and St Margaret’s CSC chair Adrian Hillman wrote: “Celtic were her one true love and having taken her last breath at Celtic Park would have been how she would have wanted it.

“A stronger more passionate woman we will never meet again, a woman not frightened to support the courage of her convictions and be outspoken about the plight of the underdog.

“Passionate and true to her beliefs always and until the end of her life.”

Alison had been battling ovarian cancer, and the pair said she fought it “like the strong-willed fighter she was”.

In a statement, Celtic FC said: “We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to her family.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are very much with them following this tragic incident.

“Celtic will provide all necessary support we can at this time.”

Alison lived and worked in London as a psychiatric nurse, after completing two degrees in history and nursing, before moving back up to Coatbridge to continue her cancer treatment.
