After a crash on a Lanarkshire road that's left two women seriously injured, police want our help to find out what happened.

It happened on the A70 in Carstairs, a mile north of the junction where Ayr Road meets Hyndford Road, around 1:50pm on Wednesday.

The smash involved a black Hyundai i20 and a grey Peugeot 308.

Both the 63-year-old female driver of the Peugeot and the 17-year-old driver of the Hyundai were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where they remain.

The road was closed for around seven hours to allow for an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant John Houston of the Road Policing Unit in Lanarkshire said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and would urge anyone who may have information to get in touch.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen either car on the road prior to the incident or who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1755 of 23 March.”
