Police Scotland has confirmed an 'XL Bully-type' dog was euthanised after an incident in Coatbridge.

Officers were called to Broughton Place in the Shawhead area of the town at around 3.40pm yesterday to "restrain" the dog.

A vet attended the scene and the dog was euthanised.

No one was injured during the incident and a 30 year old woman has been charged under the new Dangerous Dogs Act.

New restrictions came into force on the 23rd of February, meaning all XL Bully dogs must be kept on a lead and wearing a muzzle at all times.

It is also illegal to sell, exchange or abandon the breed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.40pm on Thursday, 7 March, 2024, officers attended outside a property in Broughton Place, Coatbridge, after being called to assist with restraining an XL Bully-type dog.

"A vet also attended to euthanise the dog.

"No one was injured during the incident.

“A 30-year-old woman has been charged with an offence relating to the Dangerous Dogs Act and will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”
