Gloucester City have been relegated from the National League North after another heavy defeat.

The Tigers needed to beat Chester at the TigerTurf Stadium on Saturday, and hope Rushall Olympic and Farsley Celtic both lost, to keep their slim chances of safety alive.

But Gloucester City's 6-1 defeat confirmed their relegation to the seventh tier of English football with three games still to play.

Saturday's defeat follows previous heavy losses this season, including a 5-0 loss at South Shields in February, and a 7-3 defeat to Boston United in March.

The Tigers have spent 15 years in the sixth tier, alternating between the National League, formerly Conference, North and South.

It includes finishing top of the table in the 2020-21 season, although they were not promoted to the National League due to the season being declared null and void amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Tigers also reached the play-off quarter finals following a 7th placed finish last season.

Gloucester City's next match is away at Alfreton Town on 9 April.

Their final match before relegation, and their final home game of the season, takes place on 20 April against Scunthorpe.
