The town Olly Alexander grew up in have announced they will be hosting a Eurovision watch party.

The singer will be representing the UK in the Eurovision competition in Malmö, Sweden on 11 May.

Olly Alexander entered and won competitions at the Coleford Music Festival in the early 2000s.

His mother, Vicki Thornton, said: "When I told him about it I think he was really moved that there's support in the town he grew up in. I think it really helps him and spurs him on.

"I think it's great to have somebody from your community you can get behind. I think for this tiny little town it's quite an event!"

Vicki will be travelling to Sweden to watch the competition. She says her son is already a winner for just taking part in the competition.

Speaking about her son being picked to represent the UK, Vicki said: "It's just insane, I can't get my head around it"

The event will be held at the Studio Cinema and will be free to local residents.
