Gloucestershire Police have begun a murder investigation after a body was found in Stroud.

Officers say the body of a woman was found last Friday (November 4) in a flat on Chapel Street after concerns were raised by a neighbour.

Initially the death was treated as unexplained, with a murder investigation only now being launched because of the results of a post mortem examination.

Three people, two men and a woman, who are all from Stroud, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

"Officers are in the early stages of an investigation and are working to establish what has taken place," a statement from the police reads.

"The body is believed to have been undiscovered for some time and detectives are still waiting for confirmation of the identity of the victim.

"The Major Crime Investigation Team is keen to hear from anyone who has any relevant information which could assist."
