Harrogate’s Royal Hall will show a screening of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service on Monday.

Harrogate Borough Council has announced the venue will open from 10am with 950 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Queen’s funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey from 11am and is set to be one of the biggest gatherings of royalty and politicians hosted in the UK for decades.

Paula Lorimer, director of Harrogate Convention Centre, said the Royal Hall was screening the event to bring people together and for those that are unable to watch at home.

She said: “We feel that many people will wish to watch the funeral of Her Majesty The Queen at home.

“However, to ensure those residents who would prefer to watch the funeral in the presence of others are able to, we will have a screen broadcasting the service from 10am on Monday.

“We are grateful for the assistance offered by volunteers from the Royal Hall Restoration Trust which means we are able to open the Royal Hall for people to share the experience of Her Majesty the Queen’s State Funeral.”

A book of condolence will also be available at the Royal Hall for people to leave their own personal messages to the Queen who died as the UK’s longest-serving monarch on 8 September.

The funeral will also be broadcast at Ripon Cathedral on Monday which is a bank holiday. Visitors are asked to arrive from 9.30am.

The day before on Sunday, a service of commemoration will take place at the Cathedral at 3.30pm as the period of national mourning continues. This will be led by the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt. Revd Nick Baines, and visitors are asked to arrive by 3pm.

Funeral screening's will be held at different location's around Yorkshire.
