The A1(M) has partially reopened at junction 44 for the A64 following an oil spill near Bramham, which caused chaos for drivers.

The spill led to three separate crashes and has left the road - a major route between York and Leeds - closed since Thursday (February 15)

The road has now reopened westbound, but is still closed eastbound while repairs take place.

Police are still looking for the driver responsible and are continuing to ask to speak to any witnesses.

The North Yorkshire force said: "Officers arrived and found a large quantity of of oil on the road but the vehicle which has caused the spillage had left the scene.

"Before officers were able to close the road three vehicles were involved in separate collisions which are believed to have been caused by the slippery surface."
