Local coronavirus lockdown restrictions have been lifted in parts of the Bradford district, including Ilkley, Menston, Silsden and Burley in Wharfedale.

People in those areas will be able to mix with family and friends outside their household, while bowling alleys and indoor play areas will also be able to re-open.

But the restrictions are staying in place in Keighley and the city of Bradford itself for the time being.

It was announced last week that some wards in the Bradford district, including Ilkley and Wharfedale, would be released from the restrictions on 2nd September. They're now treated the same as the rest of the country.

Some other things which are now allowed in the parts of the district being released from the local lockdown restrictions include beauticians carrying out close contact treatments, and wedding receptions for up to 30 people taking place.

As well as parts of the Bradford district, other areas leaving the local lockdown today include some of Calderdale, some of Kirklees and some parts of Greater Manchester.

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock said:

"We brought in measures to protect people in these parts of Northern England, and I want to thank residents who have worked so hard to get on top of this virus.

"We’re seeing the positive results of our local approach, and are able to bring in increasingly targeted measures.

"It is vital we can maintain this good progress. I have every faith people across the county, especially in areas where we are seeing higher numbers of cases, will continue to play their part by following local rules, and self-isolating and requesting a free test as soon as they get any symptoms."
