Man arrested after police called to reports of man with knife in Craven

A 26 year old man remains in custody after the incident in Bentham on Thursday night.

Police say they've arrested a man after they were called to reports of a man armed with a knife in the Craven district of North Yorkshire.

A 26 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife, affray and two counts of criminal damage following the incident in Bentham on Thursday night.

In happened on Goodenber Road at around 8.20pm.

Officers were immediately dispatched to the area after police received a number of 999 calls to report a man in the area armed with a knife.

A man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody for questioning.

Craven’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Lorraine Crossman-Smith said:

“I understand that this incident has caused concern within the community, but I would like to offer some reassurance that we are investigating thoroughly.

“There will remain an increased police presence in the area over the weekend with officers conducting house-to-house enquiries and reassurance patrols. If you see any officers and have any questions, please talk to them.”
