There are issues on the A19 in North Yorkshire this evening - after a serious collision earlier this afternoon.

The northbound and southbound carriageways between the A19’s junctions with the A684 (Northallerton) and the A61 (Thornbrough) are currently closed following the incident which occurred just after 3.30pm today. Air ambulance, emergency services and National Highways traffic officers were called to the scene.

Traffic caught within the closure is now being turned at a turning point within the central reservation.

Motorists are strongly advised to allow more time for their journeys and to follow the below diversions:

Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol on road signs:

• Exit the A19 on to the A684 to Northallerton

• At the A684/A167 roundabout, take the exit for the A167 (East Road)

• At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit on to the A168 (Thirsk Road)

• At South Kilvington Roundabout, take the 2nd exit and rejoin the A19 southbound

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the solid square symbol on road signs:

• Exit the A19 towards Northallerton.

• At the A61/A168 roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A168

• At the A168/A167 roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A167

• At the following roundabout continue on the A167 and then immediately take the A684 northbound

• Continue then re-join the A19
