The environment agency is warning people not to use low lying footpaths in York as flooding once again hits parts of the City.

Yesterday a flood warning was issued for the River Ouse - alerting riverside properties to the risk.

The EA say the River Ouse remains "very high" following a period of heavy rainfall.

John Knight is the area incident team leader in York he says everyone should be aware of the danger in their area: "We would encourage everyone to check whether they are at risk, to sign up for flood warnings and to put measures in place to protect themselves from flooding in the future."

It has been the wettest winter in the City for more than 150 years which Mr Knight says has put huge pressure on his team: "It's been quite a long tough winter we've got a lot of staff who are trained to manage incidents. we've seen 10 named storms which have come through which is quite unusual, I can't remember it certainly not in my lifetime and what they has meant for us is that we have been effectively working through the night, through the weekend almost continually since the middle of October."

Mr Knight also says it's important that people do take action if they issue a flood warning: "It's really important they move valuables upstairs, take necessary precautions if they have air brick covers and flood guards to put them in place. The first thing is to make sure you sign up for flood warnings, that's a free service that anyone can sign up for on our website."
