Worcester named 'Champion City' in Queen's tree-planting initiative
The city is recognised for its green spaces
Worcester has been announced as a 'Champion City' in the Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) Initiative to mark her platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The accolade recognises cities across the UK that have trees and woodlands as a central part of their plans for green spaces.
They could be in the form of a dynamic green recovery plan or green city charter, as well as community-oriented environmental projects.
An event hosted by the QGC is set to take place soon.
Other UK cities which have been awarded QGC 'Champion' status so far include: Belfast, Cardiff, Chester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Preston, Swansea, Southampton and York.
Greater Manchester and Leicester will also host community events on the 4th and 5th December to honour the 'Champion' cities.
'Plant a tree for Jubilee'
The QGC is a tree-planting initiative created to mark the Queen's Jubilee which invites people from across the country to 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'.
Local communities will be encouraged to play their part to enhance the environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March.
Tree planting will start again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.
