Pet owners across Northern Lincolnshire are being urged not to let our four legged friends eat the wrong kind of treats this Christmas.

The Blue Cross pet charity is highlighting the effects an over indulgent Christmas can have on our pets.

It's as many pets manage to catch chocolate decorations from the Christmas tree.

Leigh-Anne Read is from The Blue Cross who've got a hospital in Grimsby - she said:

“Eating objects they shouldn't really be eating it is probably one of the biggest issues. Every year Blue Cross treats cats and dogs have accidentally eaten or drunk something that they shouldn't have at Christmas and recently we've seen Christmas cake eating cats and eggnog drinking German shepherds.”

“There are a few things we can give them like cooked meats, veggies such as carrots and sprouts and various types of potato. The things to look out for that the common ones that people perhaps do you know about are chocolate and alcohol. Often over the festive period, we’ll have more food in the house and perhaps having a little bit more accessible.
