Plans have been revealed for over 2 hundred new houses in Grimsby.

If the project gets the go ahead it would see a major expansion of the Scartho Top development just off Matthew Telford Park.

Longer term plans for the site were set out in 2018 with hopes another 850 new houses will eventually be built in the area.

Doncaster-based company Persimmon Homes are now seeking approval for the specific build on a six hectare site.

The application says that the properties will “provide a high quality development with a strong sense of place, embracing and reflecting the character of Grimsby”.

It will be made of 29 two-bedroom, 118 three-bedroom and 53 four-bedroom homes for the market.

A further 25 three-bedroom homes will be created as affordable housing.

There have been changes to the estate since it was first proposed, including shorter roads as opposed to a long loop road.

The houses would be bordered by existing properties to the north, and areas of future development to the south and east.

Traffic has been an ongoing concern in Scartho Top, with calls for a link road to alleviate congestion and accidents.

However, a report says that the new homes won’t add too much congestion.

The junction between Scartho Road and Matthew Telford Park has also been deemed adequate, it says.

According to earlier plans, the overall housing estate will be a mile long from end-to-end, running from Springfield Road to Matthew Telford Park.

A new exit for it is planned on Springfield Road.

The plans are now open for comment on North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning website.

They will go before the committee at a later date.
