Firefighters who tried to save four-year old Violet-Grace Youens - who was killed in a hit and run in St Helens - are getting together to raise money to create a memorial for her.

The youngster was walking with her Nan on Prescot Road when they were hit by a stolen car in March this year.

The firefighters - who were the first on scene - are holding a charity car wash on Saturday to raise money for a bench which will go in a special memorial garden.

Members of Violet-Grace's family will also be at the event.

Crews will be washing cars for donations at the event, which will run from 10am to 3pm at Eccleston Community Fire Station on Knowsley Road on Saturday 1st July.

Funds raised will go towards creating a memorial garden for Violet-Grace at the station, which her family and fellow pupils from Eccleston Mere Primary School will help to design.

A portion of the proceeds from the car wash be used to install a memorial bench outside Eccleston Community Fire Station, and money will also be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity.
