Merseyside Police are appealing for any CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage, after some of their officers were assaulted in Toxteth.

The officers stopped males in North Hill Street as part of a Section 60 order in place in the area, at around 4.10pm on Monday 18 March. Two of the males were reportedly abusive and aggressive to officers, and both subsequently attacked them.

Two 16-year-old boys, both from Toxteth, were arrested on suspicion of Common assault of an emergency worker and Obstructing police. They remain under investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing including CCTV and detectives are looking to obtain any images or footage that was taken as the incident unfolded.

Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said: “We are aware that a crowd gathered and that members of the public were filming the incident. As part of this investigation, we need to obtain all available footage, whether from mobile phones, CCTV, dashcams or other devices, and establish the full circumstances.

“The Section 60 order was in place following previous violence in the area, and is a vital tool in making those communities safer. Violence against the emergency services will not be tolerated, and we will thoroughly investigate all such incidents and support any officers and staff who are assaulted while carrying out their duties, often whilst in volatile situations.”

Anyone with footage or information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 24000265272.
