Footballer Christian Eriksen has been "stabilised" and taken to hospital in Copenhagen after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

The former Tottenham midfielder - who now plays for Inter Milan - received urgent and serious medical attention - including what appeared to be CPR.

The Danish Football Association has confirmed images which appeared to show Eriksen was awake.

In a tweet they say he is awake and having further examination in hospital.

The match with Finland was suspended for a couple of hours.

England's planned press conference this evening was also cancelled until there's a further update.

Footballers, celebrities, politicians and the public have taken to social media sending messages of support to Eriksen.

Some have criticised broadcasters for not halting coverage of the pitch sooner after Eriksen collapsed.

SNP MP Gavin Newlands tweeted: "Devastating scenes in Copenhagen. I'm sure we're all sending our best wishes to Christian and his family. We have to hang on to hope.

"(UEFA), the host broadcaster & the BBC should take a look at themselves. As soon as it was clear what had happened the camera's should've cut away.''
