Drivers advised to plan ahead this weekend if they're using the A11 in Norfolk

Motorists planning to travel southbound on the A11 between the Thickthorn Interchange and Tuttles Interchange this weekend will need to find alternative routes.

The carriageway will be closed for essential road surface repairs and maintenance.

National Highways will close the stretch of the southbound carriageway from 8pm today until 6am on Monday.

This closure will enable repairs to be made to the concrete surface between Thickthorn and Tuttles.

They say the work is being carried out over the weekend to minimise the disruption to drivers travelling in and around Norfolk. Usually, the work would have required several weeks of overnight closures.

The A11's surface was laid between the 1950s and 1970s. Although the surface has remained virtually maintenance-free for decades, millions of journeys have worn it down, requiring a vital upgrade to improve safety, enhance ride quality, and reduce traffic congestion.

Up to £400 million will be invested over the next four years to 2025 as part of Highways England's nationwide plan to revitalise the country's concrete roads.

In addition to a signed diversion route along the B1172, drivers of the larger vehicles will be encouraged to use a dispersal route along the A1066 and A140. Signs will be placed at numerous points of the A11 to inform the drivers.
