Work has started to protect Banksy's work in Lowestoft and Oulton Broad.

A special protective screen has been put over the rat, which was defaced over the weekend, to prevent any further damage. East Suffolk Council also hope this will help to preserve the work, to enable specialists to restore it.

How the rat image looked before it was defaced.

However, work on the seagull in Denmark Road will take longer, because of its size, with the authority saying security will remain in place until they're finished.

The screens being used to cover the murals are made from UV stabilised polycarbonate, which will help prevent fading as well as general damage.
