An extra £120,000 in funding is to be put towards the installation of new solar panels at Dereham Leisure Centre.

The cash has been agreed by Breckland Council and adds to £160,000 already committed towards the project.

The panels will be placed on the high level upper roof, along with the roof of the bowls hall.

It's thought they could saved the council £1m in energy costs over 25 years, while also cutting carbon emissions.

Any excess power will be sold back into the grid.

Breckland Council cabinet member Helen Crane said: "I am thrilled that the installation of solar panels on Dereham Leisure Centre has been approved by Full Council."

"This is a great step forward in our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and move towards a more sustainable future.

"Not only will this initiative help to generate income for the council, but it will also provide a clean source of energy for our community."
