A cat is thanking the RNLI for rescuing it from the River Bure near Great Yarmouth on Tuesday morning (February 22nd).

The moggy, given the name 'Icicle' was pulled from the ledge of the White Swan pub in the town.

With the help of Humber Coast Guard, the crew was able to rescue the cat, who had been suffering from hypothermia and was fighting for its life.

Just before responders reached the area, the feline friend had fallen into the river and had been spotted by local residents trying to stay afloat.

After pulling him out of the river and into the boat, the cat was wrapped up in a warm blanket and taken to the local RSPCA centre.

Following the response from the local community after the cat was rescued, the RNLI has been gifted a cat carrier to ensure the crew are prepared for another similar incident.

In a tweet, the RNLI base at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston said: "After our rescue of Icicle the cat, the very generous people at East Coast Pet Rescue have kindly donated a cat basket to the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston RNLI lifeboat station," he said.

"We will now be fully equipped to rescue our feline friends. Thank you East Coast Pet Rescue."
