A Norfolk MP who welcomed a Ukrainian mother and her six year old boy into his house just days ago tell us they're one big happy family.

Duncan Baker, who represents North Norfolk signed up to the 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme in mid March and is now hosting the two people from Kyiv.

He told us that getting them here was quite the task, but everyone's getting on really well: "They were in a queue of buses and were the tenth one back. Every bus takes an hour to be checked until it's allowed to cross the border.

"So, they missed their flight to start with, they were very upset about that and didn't think they were ever going to get here.

"But, of course we managed to get them onto another flight and they got out.

"It been a real rollercoaster.

"But the most important thing is they are now here and safe. My children are making them feel extremely welcome.

"The little boy who's six and I have a six year old daughter, he can't speak any English but they are running around the garden and playing with each other, with language not being a barrier at all which is so sweet to see.

"We have said right from the very start that they are our now family and they are to come and go as they please.

"Although I'm working fairly hard each day, yesterday they had a nice walk in the countryside and got used to their surroundings.

"I know that at the weekend, my wife and Anna are going to go shopping and get some clothes because they haven't been able to bring much with them, only a suitcase".

He went on to say that he's been overwhelmed by local people's generosity, after it was announced that the pair had arrived: "I had a huge, huge box of toys turn up to my office from one local family who said our boys just wanted to clean up their old toys and send them across.

"It's incredible and I've had offer after offer like that, whether it's toys, money or clothes. There's even people who have been saying to me, we do these clubs and societies like scouts and art therapy- would they like to join?"
