Norfolk PCC says she'll pay "close attention" to Police morale issue

Sarah Taylor will officially take on the role today, with the next PCC election scheduled for 2028.

As Sarah Taylor prepares to begin her first term as Norfolk's Police and Crime Commissioner- she tells us "close attention" will go towards improving officer morale.

With the director at a global engineering consultancy company getting over 52k votes, in an election that saw over 21% turnout to vote.

What has Sarah Taylor promised to do?

Some of the things she stood on in this election, include:

-Maintain an effective and efficient policing service

-Continue to invest in and support officer and all police staff’s health and well-being

-Improving public trust and confidence in policing

-Delivering effective neighbourhood policing

-Promote a co-ordinated county wide response to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) to tackle high harm behaviours/criminality with a focus on domestic abuse, rape and serious sexual offences

-Being effective in tackling serious and organised crime (including fraud and cyber-crime affecting Norfolk)

-Delivering an effective response to the county lines threat affecting Norfolk’s communities and the vulnerable

-Work in partnership to tackle agricultural crimes (such as hare coursing, farm machinery theft and livestock worrying

What does a Police and Crime Commissioner do?

-Ensure there's effective and efficient policing in the county

-Appoint the Chief Constable, hold them to account for running the force, and if necessary, dismiss them.

-Set the police and crime objectives for their area through a police and crime plan;

-Set the force budget and determine the precept

-Contribute to the national and international policing capabilities set out by the Home Secretary

-Bring together community safety and criminal justice partners, to make sure local priorities are joined up.
