Cats Protection’s Belfast Adoption Centre has launched an appeal to raise money to fund veterinary treatment for injured 7-week-old stray kitten Alex.

Having been found inside a car engine by a good Samaritan, Alex had undergone immediate surgery to fix his ‘degloved’ jaw. Beyond his injuries Alex was in extremely poor condition overall, due to lack of food and pot-bellied with a large parasitic worm burden.

After being treated for worms and fleas, providing nutritious kitten food and sleeping in a warm bed, Alex was feeling and looking more like a healthy kitten should!

The team at the Belfast Adoption Centre are now desperate to raise a target of £500 needed to meet the cost of Alex’s treatment to get him ready for adoption and back on his paws.

Senior Rehoming & Welfare Assistant Rebecca Cairns said: “Alex is such a lovely kitten who has been through so much in his short life so far and we believe he deserves all the help we can give him. He’s proved to be a real fighter and we are not going to give up on him.”

Cats protection Belfast shared a sweet message on social media giving followers an update on Alex's condition.

It reads: "We've had an absolutely amazing response so far and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have donated 🙏

"I'm sure you'll all be glad to know that Alex is doing brilliantly after his surgery. As you can see from the video below he's made himself right at home in the Cats Protection Belfast Adoption Centre and is enjoying his recovery in his comfy, dalmatian spotted cat igloo!"

If you would like to help Alex please visit his JustGiving page at: www.justgiving.com/page/cpbelfastalex or contact the Belfast Adoption Centre on 028 9048 0202 or belfast@cats.org.uk .

Please note that Alex will not be offered for adoption until he has fully recovered.

Any money raised more than the fundraising target will be used to help the other cats currently in the care of the Belfast Adoption Centre.
