36 fines issued to lockdown rule-breakers in Devon and Cornwall

Since restrictions came into force last week, the local police force have received 885 COVID-related reports

Devon and Cornwall Police have issued 36 fines since the start of the third national lockdown.

This includes nine for outdoor gatherings, four for leaving house without reasonable excuse and for 15 indoor gatherings.

Since Tuesday 5 January, they have had 885 COVID-related reports, with 699 of those resulting in officers engaging, explaining, and encouraging people to stick to the rules.

The force have carried out over 800 stop-checks, with around a dozen fixed penalty notices being issued.

Devon and Cornwall Police say the roads appear to be quieter and crime is down by around 11% compared to pre-lockdown figures.

999 calls are down around 10% but calls and contact their 101 service is up around 23%.

The force say the figures show the vast majority of communities are complying with the regulations.
