A Plymouth swimming club has launched a crowdfunder in a bid to help them survive the pandemic.

Plymouth Leander are appealing for support as the lockdown means they have had to stop training again.

Swimmers there returned to the pool in August for the first time since the first lockdown began in March.

The club is already facing the added blow of Plymouth Life Centre being closed until April next year - forcing them to hire pool time elsewhere, after months without any income.

Their Development Officer, Neil Tremayne, says this has been a drain on resources:

"We have been incurring extra costs to ensure swimmers are following all COVID-19 guidance from Swim England and the government.

"The closure of the Life Centre has also meant we have had to source pool time from other providers at a higher cost.

"We have also lost our access to our only 50m training facilities meaning we have to travel to a number of other venues all of which cost much more than we have paid previously."

The club has nearly hit there target of £20,000 and say the funding is 'critical to the long-term development of the swimming programme'.
