Theatre Royal Plymouth set to welcome audiences back from next week
The venue has been shut for over eight months due to the coronavirus pandemic
After being forced to close their doors to the public over eight months ago, the Theatre Royal Plymouth will be welcoming back audiences from next week.
The venue will be running three socially distanced Christmas shows, following the success of their Culture Recovery Fund application and an initiative from The National Lottery.
The first will be The Gingerbread Man from Tuesday 8 December. Presented by Stuff and Nonsense, it's a festive delight for little ones and their families.
Next will be The Thing That Came From Over There by Gonzo Moose. Kick-starting on Wednesday 9 December, the alternative Christmas comedy is inspired by horror movies of the 1950s.
And of course, this year's pantomime Robinson Crusoe starring Les Dennis, Connor McIntyre, Simon Webbe, Andy Ford and Jennie Dale. It will raise its curtains for the first time on Saturday 12 December.
CEO of the Theatre Royal, Adrian Vinken, said it's a "really important moment for Plymouth and TRP":
"After such a long, bleak time to be able to welcome back our audiences to enjoy Christmas shows as usual is just wonderful.
"Public interest in the shows has been fantastic so we're confident they'll bring fun and energy back to the city centre, lift spirits and finally give people who've had such tough times this year something to smile about. And, of course, it will all happen in a safe, socially distanced way.
"None of this would have been possible without support from the Culture Recovery Fund and the generosity of Camelot. Christmas is officially back at TRP and we couldn't be happier!!"
