Olympic champion Tom Daley could be made "freeman of the city"
The honour will be discussed at an EGM ahead of the next full council meeting in September
Olympic diver Tom Daley could be bestowed with the highest honour Plymouth can give.
Calls for him to be made a freeman of the city were made by Councillor Tudor Evans, after the 27-year-old and his diving partner - Matty Lee - made history by winning Great Britain's first gold medal in the men's synchronised 10 metre platform.
The leader of the Labour group of Plymouth City Council wrote to the local authority at the end of July to make the request.

It has been given the green light by the Lord Mayor - and will now be discussed at an EGM ahead of the next full council meeting on Monday 13 September.
"I am thrilled our campaign has the full support of the Lord Mayor and I’m proud to have proposed it. Tom Daley is a brilliant ambassador for his sport and for our city and he thoroughly deserves this recognition from the city of his birth.
"As a city we have watched with so much pride as he has grown in stature both as a person and as an athlete and he is an absolute credit to Plymouth and a top Janner!”
