We’re told a new £2 million pound extension to Stamford College will be a major boost for the local construction sector.

The Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership have provided the funds to upgrade the college's site where students learn plumbing, carpentry and brickwork.

Principle Janet Meenaghan hopes it’ll encourage prospective students to look at all their options;

"We've got a great University sector in our country but it isn't the only route. There's lots and lots of really successful vocational pathways.

There's some extremely high paid jobs in construction and it's an industry that's crying out for workers"

She continues "The number of people retiring in the construction sector is going to massively outweigh the number of younger people coming through out of schools"

"There's a need not only for young people - we're going to need to see adults re-training and up-skilling and possibly rethinking their career paths"
