Euros will have "enormous impact" on girls, says coach of Stamford AFC's first-ever women's team

England's UEFA Women's Euro campaign will inspire young girls across our region to get into football, according to Stamford AFC's ladies boss.

Robin Chaudhuri is at the helm of Stamford AFC's first ever women's team, who will compete in Division One of the Lincolnshire League in the 2022/23 season.

He tells us an international women's competition being playing on home turf will prove to his own players and younger women across the UK that the sky is the limit in Women's football.

"It's going to have an enormous impact on girls not only in this county, but also throughout the UK. Really it's an opportunity for women, young girls and all individuals to watch some of the best women players in the world', Robin said.

'This is huge advertising for all aspects of women's football, not just to take part which is absolutely magnificent, but for some they will look to think of a career, some will think of coaching in due course.'

'The first match kicks off at Old Trafford, years ago that would have been unthinkable for a women's game to be hosted at such a venue and my understanding is that's going to be a sell-out crowd, so close to 70,000 people watching a women's game. That's going to be magnificent.'

Arsenal Ladies player Leah Williamson is the current England Women's captain.

25-year-old Leah was standing in as captain for injured player Steph Houghton, and it was announced in April this year that she had been appointed captain for the Women's Euro 2022.

The 52-year-old, who gained an impressive 104 caps for her country during her playing days, took over from former manager Phil Neville in September 2021.

The 2022 Euros will be Wiegman's first major tournament in charge of England Women, with the former Netherlands coach signing a four-year contract, which will see her manage the team at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, and the UEFA Women’s EURO in 2025.

The FA launched the brand new England Home and Away kit in mid-May ahead of the Women's Euro 2022 tournament.

Created by Nike, the Home jersey is the first in three years for the ladies squad, and is an all-white kit complete with angular lines of cut diamonds.

The Away jersey is equally as stylish, yet very bright. According to The FA, the crimson shirt and shorts were formed to pay tribute to all of the former players who have contributed to making women’s football what it is today.

The Women's Euro 2022 is made up of 16 teams.
