Primary school in Oakham keen to prioritise their pupils' mental health with new 'reflective' area
We've been speaking with the headteacher at Oakham Church of England Primary School
Oakham Church of England Primary school say they're keen to prioritise their pupils' mental health, following a 'stop-start' year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
We've been speaking to them after they recently created a 'reflective area' for kids there to relax in on their breaks.
The school have also been given a couple of new benches by local company 'McCarthy Stone' to help make their outdoor space more comfortable.
Headteacher Steve Cox says the donation is much appreciated:
"By having the brightly coloured benches which sit at the heart of our new reflective area, we're promoting positive mental wellbeing by giving the children a special place where they can go to reflect on their learning.
"They'll be able to think about the world around them, be with each other, and if they wish to, they can pray.
"During the pandemic, the pupils here have been extremely resilient, but never has more support been needed for their mental health and wellbeing.
"The benches have been very popular, and it's fantastic to see so many different children accessing them throughout the week.
"I'm really confident that this will be the case for many years to come."
