Pet owners in Stamford and Rutland urged to look out for their pets this festive period

As many people across Stamford and Rutland get their fireworks ready to signal the start of a new year, we're being urged to consider our pets.

The RSPCA tells us loud bangs at this time of year can leave animals feeling distressed.

Suzanne Norbury from the charity has this advice for owners:

"We would encourage people to maybe put on a bit of music on in the background and just make sure their pets are at home and secure.

"We’re also hoping to raise awareness of some of the other dangers everything from decorations to tinsel and wrapping paper which can be really attractive to cats."

Plan ahead to keep pets safe

Suzanne Norbury from the RSPCA says its important to plan ahead:

"We’re just hoping that people make a plan, make sure they’re prepared and be aware of all the those things that may be a bit different at this time of the year and make sure their pets are safe and secure this Christmas."

2. Tinsel and wrapping paper

3. Festive bakes

4. Macadamia nuts

5. Plants

6. Cooked bones and leftovers

7. Alcohol

8. Silica gel
