A new branch of McDonald's has opened in Rutland today.

The original plans caused quite a stir in the community when they were first submitted.

Oakham's Mayor David Romney officially opened the restaurant at 11am this morning. He hopes it might lead to more people visiting the town.

The restaurant in Oakham is bringing 65 new jobs, and it's located at the junction of Hackamore Way and Lands End Way.

The restaurant is owned and operated by McDonald’s franchisee Glyn Pashley. He said: “We are delighted to be opening in Oakham, making this restaurant the first in Rutland, and we’re so looking forward to seeing our new and existing local customers at the restaurant"
