Shielding ends today for people most at risk from coronavirus across Stamford and Rutland.

Millions of people across the country who're classed as 'clinically extremely vulnerable' have been told to stay inside - except for specific purposes.

Local community partnership 'Uppingham First' say they'll be on hand to support those who've been forced to shield themselves over the past few months.

Ron Simpson is the Secretary there:

"People are different. Some will feel cautious and anxious perhaps, as many will have got accustomed to their circumstances. These people might not want to go straight back outside and may wait a little longer before dashing out of the door.

"Meanwhile, others who have been shielding will be craving physical company, and the recent relaxation of lockdown rules will have been welcomed by many."

Mr. Simpson added his thoughts on how surreal it may end up feeling for some:

"Some people who've been shielding haven't even been able to come to Uppingham market.

"That will be quite a surreal place for them to return to, as it's an incredibly social place, but it's all very well organised with social distancing.

"Hopefully, people who've been indoors for months will feel confident enough to step outside and taste some freedom, and we're him for them if they need extra support."
