Essential road works on the A338 near Britford have now been completed and it has fully reopened as usual.

For three weeks a number of works were carried out, including resurfacing, which meant less than a mile stretch had to be shut.

It's one of Salisbury's busiest arterial routes, and as it was closed when schools reopened, it caused traffic delays in the early hours of some days.

The issues caused Wiltshire Council to come out and defend their decision on the timing of the road closure.

They explained that the roadworks couldn't be done earlier because of concurrent works and diversion routes that are planned for the region.

They have managed to finish on schedule as the road reopened earlier today (Friday 25th September).
