Alzheimer's Support to open Dementia centre in Salisbury

Day care will be available for those in South Wiltshire

Alzheimer's Support are opening a new dementia centre and day club in Salisbury.

The project was due to start at the beginning of 2020 but was put on hold due to the pandemic, now plans are well underway for the new centre to open by the end of the year.

The local charity already has two centres in Wiltshire which are found in Devizes and Trowbridge.

Now they are launching a £140,000 fundraising campaign to create the new purpose-designed facility.

Home to the centre will be on the ground floor of Scots House in Scots Lane, dubbing the name of the centre 'The Scots Lane dementia centre'.

ABOUT THE SALISBURY CENTRE

Up to 40 people can visit each week, Monday to Thursday, with space for Salisbury's two dementia advisers and a memory café.

Plus, the teams running singing and art groups as well as the charity's award-winning Home Support Service across South Wiltshire.

On Friday's people affected by dementia, or just worried about their memory or that of a relative, will be able to drop in for support and advice.

CEO Babs Harris said: "We are thrilled to have found these premises in a quiet location in the heart of the city. It's an ambitious project and one which will fill a huge gap and help people living with dementia and their families find the support they need.

"There is no specialist dementia day care in Salisbury and we know the difference that a supportive, engaging club environment can make to people living with dementia and to family carers.

"We have already had great support from many people in Salisbury, and are looking forward to working with the community to create something really special."

Alzheimer's Support is an independent charity that operates throughout Wiltshire providing care for those living at home and their family carers.

They run a number of groups in the county including support at home, carers' groups, carer training, Music for the Mind singing groups, memory cafes, art groups, Movement for the Mind exercise groups, discussion groups, wildlife clubs and life story groups.
