More than 50 driving offences spotted in Amesbury in one morning

More than fifty driving offences have been spotted by police in Amesbury in just one morning.

Roads Policing officers have carried out projects in the town and surrounding areas yesterday (Wednesday 14th February), as part of Project Zero.

That sees targeted efforts to prevent road traffic offences in a designated part of the county each week.

Among the 53 issues picked up during the morning were:

• A driver, in his 40s, stopped for using a mobile phone whist driving a Volkswagen Crafter in Countess Road. He then failed a roadside drug wipe test and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving

• A man in his 60s was arrested and charged with drink driving, after his vehicle was stopped in Lords Croft. He is due in Salisbury Magistrates Court on March 12th

Acting Inspector Will Ayres said:

"It's always disappointing to see this type of offending on our roads - it is this type of behaviour which is most likely to contribute to a serious or fatal collision.

"The team will continue to patrol the roads of Wiltshire targeting those most likely to cause harm on the roads."

Officers in the Roads Policing Unit target the so-called 'fatal five' - speeding, drink/drug driving, no wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, and driving in a careless or dangerous manner.
