They've previously had permission granted in 2017

We'll find out next week if Salisbury is to finally get an Asda store near Hampton Park.

The supermarket chain will discover the decision on it's second application to build on a site on London Road on Wednesday (17th April) when Wiltshire Council considers the proposal.

Permission has been granted before, back in 2017, but that expired after no work started during the two year deadline.

Plans were submitted for a second time in November 2021.

It will be built on land off Hampton Park Roundabout

Their proposal to the local authority includes a petrol station, drive thru coffee shop, and a cycle link between London Road and Green Lane. It's car park will be able to hold 323 cars.

At the time of submission, the project was thought to cost around £20 million.

The planning application says:

"The site is currently underutilised and the proposed development looks to maximise potential benefits for the local community and economy. A public development such as this can respond to the character of Salisbury and Bishopdown whilst creating greater pedestrian and cycle access into the site and adjacent residential areas.

"The site provides an opportunity to create a local food store for the north of Salisbury and the residential areas of Bishopdown and Hampton Park / Riverdown Park which will be of direct benefit to the communities it surrounds, while providing increased choice and competition for the existing Aldi, Tesco and Waitrose stores elsewhere in Salisbury."
