Rogue trader warning after cold calling reports in Wiltshire

We are being asked to report incidents to police

There is warning to residents in Wiltshire after reports were made about a possible rogue trader in the county.

Wiltshire Trading Standards were told about a white saloon car with a sign saying 'HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE' in the Kingston Deverill area.

They were offering to repair driveways using leftover tarmac from a local highway job.

No one agreed to the work taking place and trading standards say it's a tactic often used by rogue traders to entice them into letting them carry out the work.

It will often be of poor quality with a substantially increased price from the verbal quote initially given with customers not being made aware of their statutory 14 day cancellation rights.

We are being told to never agree to work carried out by a cold caller and we should always get three quotes and use a Trading Standards Approved business or get recommendations.

You should also report cold calling incidents to the Police on 101 or call 999 if a crime is in progress.
