Warning as 130-tonne cargo heads through Wiltshire

Delays possible on A303 & A36 today due to abnormal load

Motorists are warned they might face delays today (Friday 29 April) as an abnormal load crosses Wiltshire.

From 9.30am the load will enter from across the Hampshire border, and move through Wiltshire towards Whatley Quarry near Shepton Mallet in Somerset.

It will travel along the following pre-determined route:

* A303 Westbound from Hampshire to the A36 at Deptford

* A36 North via Knook and the Warminster by-pass to the A361 at Beckington

* A361 around Frome and onwards to Whatley Quarry

ABNORMAL LOAD

Wiltshire Police say the load measures 5.54 metres wide / 4.8 metres high / 27.5 meters long / and weighs 130 tonnes.

It's made up of Plant Equipment under carriage by Ascroft Transport Limited from Lancashire.

Owing to its width, the loads are likely to be slow moving and have the potential to create congestion in places.

Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across this move.

Anyone travelling in the vicinity over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.
