Devizes Road in Salisbury has been closed due to a major gas leak and it's unknown when the road can be expected to re-open.

The road was closed in the early hours of Tuesday morning (26th March) - between Clifton Road and Gas Lane.

Gas readings had been found in two properties either side of the road.

The readings are said to be at a safe level now for people to stay in their homes and engineers working at the scene are monitoring them closely.

SGN spokesperson, Bradley Barlow, said:

"Our engineers are currently attending a gas escape on Devizes Road in Salisbury, where gas readings have been found in two properties on either side of the road. The gas readings are at a safe level for residents to remain in their homes and are being closely monitored by our team, who will remain on site and will be working through the night to carry out repairs.

"For everyone’s safety, we temporarily closed Devizes Road in the early hours of this morning due to the road being too narrow to safely provide access past our works under two-way lights.

"It’s too early to say how long our repair will take and we’ll provide updates on our website as work progresses."
