Double CCTV boost for Salisbury
New cameras and new control room software are on their way
Salisbury's CCTV systems are to be boosted by extra funding from the City Council.
A control room system upgrade costing £25,000 has been approved, as working and volunteering hours have increased.
Salisbury City Council say the investment's needed to keep the area safe, while preventing and detecting crimes.
It's hoped the new software will allow operators to work more effectively and uphold CCTV and data protection rules.
The new system will be installed next month.
Four new deployable CCTV cameras are also coming to Salisbury, which can be sent out to monitor areas that need extra coverage.
They're being funded through the Government's Safer Streets Fund.
Those additional cameras will mean the total number of cameras in Salisbury city centre will increase to 68.
The new funding and system upgrades come just days after Salisbury's MP John Glen spent a night with the CCTV operators to find out more about their role.
The control room is monitored by a team of volunteers, working with partners including Police, ShopWatch, PubWatch and City Centre Security Officers.
