A drink driver has been jailed for six months and disqualified for five years after being stopped in Salisbury driving a vehicle on three wheels.

Dale Frampton, 35, of Ryleaze, Potterne, was found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and driving whilst disqualified and without third party insurance at Salisbury Magistrates' Court.

Shortly after 9.30pm on Wednesday 8 January last year, officers responded to a report of a black Ford Focus swerving on the A36 with sparks coming from one of the wheels.

The vehicle was stopped on Southampton Road, heading towards the city centre.

The vehicle's passenger-side front wheel was missing, leaving it running on the brake disk, which was causing the sparks.

Frampton's car was stopped on Southampton Road.

Officers had reason to believe that Frampton, who was disqualified from driving until October last year following a previous conviction, was under the influence of alcohol and driving an uninsured vehicle.

He later provided a positive alcohol reading more than three times the limit.

PC Alex Collins of the Roads Policing Unit said:

_"Drink driving will never be tolerated and the manner of this incident shows the complete disregard for public safety that Frampton had that nigh_t."

"Not only was he driving whilst disqualified and in an uninsured vehicle, he did so whilst drunk, towards a city centre and in a vehicle that wasn't fit to be driven.

"Frampton's actions that night were reckless and I am pleased the sentence reflects this.

"Our message is clear - there is never an excuse to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after having a drink and if caught, you will be dealt with appropriately."
