Help reduce carbon emissions this Earth Day with Salisbury Reds

Using an alternative to driving twice a month can help

As people around the world celebrate Earth Day to support environmental protection, we can all do our bit by leaving the car at home for just two journeys each month.

Salisbury Reds say this minor change can have a major impact on our planet’s health.

On Earth Day people come together to advance sustainability and raise awareness of the need to look after our climate and environment.

The Campaign to Protecting Rural England are holding an event this afternoon (Saturday 22nd April), at Langford Lakes Nature Reserve, with guest speakers who have been working on improving our countryside environment.

And Salisbury Reds have urged us to make a small change to our travel habits.

“By choosing to leave their vehicles at home just twice a month for the rest of the year and switch their journey to bus, rail or bicycle,” said Salisbury Reds managing director, Andrew Wickham.

Motorists generally make about 600 journeys a year, and by switching one in every 25 trips to a bus ride, taking the train or by cycling, we can reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by two million tonnes per year.

“Our bus fleet is among the newest and cleanest in the south. Much of our fleet sports the very latest Euro 6 engine - releasing fewer emissions than the average new diesel car,” Mr Wickham said, adding:

“Earth Day ties in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve. Buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution - with just one double decker having the potential to remove up to 75 cars from our roads.”
