There was an important landmark today (Friday 22nd April) in the police station project in Tidworth.

A ground breaking ceremony was held at the site for the new civic centre, which should be opening in August 2023.

The £7.3M project has been jointly funded by Tidworth Town Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner and will include a new community station.

The existing Amesbury CPT and Tidworth touchdown Stations were recognised as no longer meeting operational needs and as such, options surrounding alternative locations were explored.

An opportunity arose for the force to join facilities with Tidworth Town Council a the brand new civic centre.

PCC Philip Wilkinson, Superintendent Dave Minty, Tidworth Mayor Mark Connolly and Devizes MP Danny Kruger were all in attendance for the ceremony.

Philip Wilkinson said:

"A community police station is Tidworth is an important part of my vision for effective policing in Wiltshire. The fact that we've been able to enter into a joint partnership with Tidworth Town Council means that together, we'll be able to create a real hub for the community where Wiltshire Police can play an integral role"

Work on the building is set to begin at the old community centre in July.

Tidworth Mayor Mark Connolly

Mayor and Wiltshire Councillor for Tidworth Mark Connolly said

"Tidworth Town Council are excited at the prospect of the joint Civic Centre and CPT project. Having Wiltshire Police on board with the project is good for both partners and the community. Working together will mean we can deliver a project we and the town can be proud of.

"The Civic Centre will provide much more space and flexible use of its rooms for the community and community groups than the existing building. It will be a meeting place for all and a central hub for the community to come together."
