Wiltshire children's hospice Julia's House is to host its first ever charity race day at Salisbury Racecourse next month.

The afternoon's racing on Friday 9th September, between 12.30pm and 7.30pm will raise funds for the cause, which supports children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

More than 2,000 spectators would be expected at the meeting at the Netherhampton track.

The children's hospice charity will benefit from donations made through the Salisbury Race Day

Racegoers will also have a chance to win some A-list prizes on the day, through a raffle and silent auction.

The items up for grabs include:

  • Bespoke weekend package to attend the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix 2023
  • Walk-on part in a Guy Ritchie movie, with a behind-the-scenes experience on a UK film set, and meeting the director himself
  • Four tickets in the Director's Box for Newcastle v AFC Bournemouth
  • Four Director's Box tickets for Newcastle v Chelsea

Prizes have been donated by some of the celebrity patrons of Julia's House, including Guy Ritchie and his wife Jacqui Ainsley.

They provided vital support in building the charity’s hospice in Wiltshire around five years ago, hosting a fundraising event on their Wiltshire country estate for the charity.

Eddie Howe, Head Coach of Newcastle United FC, has also got involved through his patronage of the charity.

The former Bournemouth manager has been involved for many years. He said:

"I remember my son, Harry, having a health scare when he was very young and when you go through an experience like that, you get even more of an appreciation for a charity like Julia’s House and others that care for sick children. At this stage in my life, I have a greater understanding of what it means and of the responsibility of being a parent. I am privileged and proud to become a Patron of this fantastic charity.”

The charity has some VIP tickets left for the Race Day, which includes entry to Salisbury Races, drinks on arrival and a BBQ on a private viewing terrace.

Tickets for that cost £150 per person or tables of eight to 10 can be reserved for £1,500, with all proceeds going to Julia’s House.
