There's a step back to normality for residents and commuters in Salisbury as London Road reopens in the city.

The stretch between St Mark's Avenue and Barrington Road had been closed after two trains collided on the railway line which runs close to the A30 on October 31st.

The 'complex operation' to recover the damaged train carriages involved a huge crane.

Pedestrians had also been able to access the area for a number of days as heavy good vehicles and equipment was delivered to the site.

A shuttle mini bus was used to ferry residents around the diversion.

A 'heavy refurbishment' is now being carried out on the railway line which involves replacing almost 1,500 sleepers along with three sets of points- that's the moveable rails which enable trains to change course.

More than 800 metres of new track needs to be laid and almost two miles of cable for signalling and power supply.

The works are taking place overnight throughout this week and Network Rail say it'll be 'inevitable' there will be noise disruption for local residents.

The railway line will be closed until at least the 15th November.
